Golden Hearts Animal Sanctuary

A Sanctuary For Elderly & Special Needs Animals

MeiLi

MeiLi came from New Beginnings for Animals in Orange County. They rescued her from one of their shelters, but it quickly became clear all was not well with her. Their veterinarians diagnosed her with probable lung cancer. When asked if she could come here for hospice care, we gladly said yes!

We had some further work-ups done by our veterinarians, and the conclusion is that she is suffering from  chronic lung and sinus disease as a result of feline herpes virus. She hates to be medicated, so treatment options are limited for her. She takes a daily antihistamine and immune-boosting supplements to keep her symptoms to a minimum. She has an Albuterol inhaler to use when she’s having an exceptionally bad day.

Update 11/08 ~ MeiLi continues to battle lung problems off and on, but she’s gained weight, and her sassy attitude keeps every one in line! She has her own electric blanket for cold nights and mornings, a space heater in her room too, plus her own HEPA filter. Chinese herbs on Santa Ana wind days help her breathe better, plus antihistamines. She spends her days pretty much anywhere she wants ~ either with the other house kitties, out in their outdoor enclosure, or watching TV with us. She really like dogs now, and will even try snuggling up to them!
