Golden Hearts Animal Sanctuary

A Sanctuary For Elderly & Special Needs Animals

Tara and Uno have been together since they were just a couple of weeks old. Both were abandoned by their feral mothers as kittens, leaving the need for them to be hand-fed until they were old enough to be weaned.

Tara grew up normally, very bossy, just like many “tortie” colored kitties can be.  Uno, on the other hand, was very slow to mature and didn’t grow normally. He stayed small for a very long time and his hair coat was a thin covering of fuzz until he was almost 3 months old. He also never developed normal play behavior.

It was felt that in Uno’s best interest, Tara should stay with him, and they should come to live here, where Uno’s handicaps would be accepted readily.  Today, both are mature, happy cats. Tara takes care of Uno, and the two are often found napping side-by-side in their chairs (they don’t fit in the same bed anymore!) Uno’s sight was questionable, but we’ve been assured by the Specialist that his eyes don’t focus correctly because of developmental problems. We have fish tanks that Uno absolutely adores, and he spends much of his day watching the fish swim. He also enjoys snuggling up with the dogs for a nap, and they all understand his special needs, though his habit of nursing on dog hair is one they wish he hadn’t developed!
